Minor league moves

Guenin
There were other moves within the Penguins’ organization yesterday, June 3.
The Penguins signed Nate Guenin, a defensemen formerly of the Philadelphia Flyers, and saw Chris Minard and Jeff Taffe leave for greener pastures.
Minard was signed by Edmonton while Taffe signed with Florida. The terms of both contracts are unknown at this point.
Both were leaders on the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins last season and vital parts of their offensive attack. It will have great effects for the Pens’ AHL affiliate. However, they will have a much better chance at making it in the league with their new teams.
Chris Minard saw more time than Taffe, playing in 20 games for the Pens in Pittsburgh. He accumulated one goal and two assists in that span.
Taffe played in eight games, notching two assists last year in Pittsburgh. He had a more significant influence on the Stanley Cup runner-up squad in 2007-08. Taffe played in 45 regular season games that year, scoring five goals and adding seven assists.
Both were much more productive at the AHL level. Minard totaled 57 points (34 G + 23 A) while Taffe compiled 75 points (25 G + 50 A). Minard led the team in goals scored during the regular season.
Nate Guenin, 26 years old, comes to the organization with little NHL experience. He played just one game for the Flyers last season.
At 6-2, 210 pounds, he’s a defense-first, physical defender. Guenin played in a total of 62 games, assisting of 14 goals and registering 95 PIM.
Given the depleted defensive corps in WBS, his arrival will help out a lot down there. Don’t expect to see him skating in Mellon Arena next year.
